More Pictures?

My phone won't let me post pictures on this blog, so I actually have to sit at a computer (which I do very rarely).....So, I post all of our pictures at www.thebrownells.shutterfly.com

About Me

My photo
I have a husband and a puppy. I love one and am obsessed with the other. I'll let you figure out which is which. I love my job, my house, my students, my cheerleaders, and my life. I guess you could say things are going pretty well... I teach high school English and coach cheer. Husband is a video game designer. Guess which one the future Brownell babies will think is cooler...

Quack like a Duck!

So, about half of my students have names I've never seen or pronounced.  The first day of school, when I'm taking roll, is always ridiculous.  With my high school Spanish and my college Latin I can usually swing the Hispanic kids' names, but the Vietnamese names are tough.  I warn them that I will butcher their names, and many snickers ensue....

Phuc?   Nhu-y?   Than-Thuy?  Phong?  Linh?  Quynh?  Trinh?  Cuong?  Dieu?  Phuong?

The hardest part is that Phong is a male's name and Phuong is a female's name.  Don't mix them up!

Anyway, today we were looking for one kid's book and I said that his name was Duc (pronounced like "Duke"), a hispanic student said "Duck?"  We all laughed.

Then Duc said, "I like it when people call me Duck!"  We, again, laughed!

I said, "Hey Duck, will you read sentence #1?" - he said "OK!"  Then proceeded to respond with "Quack, quack quack, quack quack quack...."

HAHA!  ELD jokes are the best! :)
